The paper contains the qualitative content-analysis of the newspaper features on identity in the Russian press, published by such leading daily prints as “Izvestiya”, “Nezavisimaya Gazeta”, and “Komsomolskaya Pravda”. Totally circa thirty five relevant newspaper features have been analyzed. The newspaper features’ text massives’ decomposition allowed to single out 840 analysis units, which then have been structured according to the following levels: content-setting, thematic, problematic, target, and attributive. On the content-setting level the analyzed newspaper features discuss the identity phenomenon. On the thematic level we have singled out the following main themes: ethno-cultural identity, ethnic identity, cultural identity, national identity, (general)Russian identity (Russian). On the problematic level within the “ethno-cultural identity” level we have detected the following series of problems: various kinds of the ethno-cultural identity at the Russian citizens’ disposal, which are frequently plural and not interexcluding, as well as a striking capacity of historical survival, including preservation of its ethno-cultural, ethno-confessional identity.
