CLUSTER ANALYSIS OF THE AMERICAN ETHNO-CULTURAL EXPLICIT GROUP IDENTITY

Stavropolsky Y.V
The paper contains the outcome of the cluster analysis of the explicit group ethno-cultural identity engaging the data of the sociological research in Washington (DC) and the state of Virginia. Definitions of an ethno-cultural group and ethno-cultural identity are provided. Grounds for dividing ethno-cultural groups into dominant, non-dominant specific, and non-dominant non-specific ones are presented. Pearson’s chi-square non-parametric criterion has been employed for detecting ethno-cultural homogeneity vs. ethno-cultural heterogeneity of a multi-cultural society. Reliability and consistency of the applied questionnaire has been confirmed by means of Cronbach’s alpha. The k-mean cluster analysis has been undertaken. It turns out that the American respondents’ explicit group ethno-cultural identity has been constituted by four cluster groups: “racists”, “opponents to nationalism”, “isolationists”, “adherents to multi-culturalism”.
